| Born in Philadelphia, Arthur Bye became a painter, craftsman, writer, and lecturer. He studied at Princeton University where he earned MA and Ph D degrees, and at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He also studied with Charles Rosen and John Carlson and exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists.
From 1922 to 1930, he was a Curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and from 1926 to 1946, a Technical Advisor to Princeton University. He also did a lot of restoration of paintings.
