This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Betty Bowes passed away in 2007. She was a grand old gal and lived at her home In Wynnewood, Pennsylvania until her death. Betty began her career in fashion illustration before moving on to fine arts which she followed for almost 6 decades.
As a hobby she also did covers for Reader's Digest Magazine. I believe it would be accurate to include Seascapes as one of her primary interests and her work is included in the collection of Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia. During her lifetime, she dealt primarily with the Newman Saunders Gallery.
Betty's Father in Law was Thomas Bowes, a famous Naval Architect, and family yachting events aboard various Bowes Yachts and at the Corinthian Yacht Club in Essington, PA provided her with much subject material. She was married to Thomas Bowes, Jr., an engineer, who died at a fairly early age. They had no children, and she remained devoted to his memory through the remainder of her life.
Sincerely, Roger Allen Formerly a Curator at the Independence Seaport Museum. |
