Known for her behind-the-scene paintings of Ringling Brothers circus figures, especially clowns, Blanche Bernstein was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. She studied at Butler University where she earned a BA degree, at Johns Hopkins University, and in Indianapolis at Circle Art Academy and Taflinger Art School. In New York, she attended the Art Students League, Columbia University, and New York University where she received an MA degree.
