|The following is from the artist, whose studio is in Mobile, Alabama: |
The studio artist and illustrator was born in Mobile, Alabama in 1959. He is mainly self taught and displayed his talent at a very early age, doing his first painting at age 9. Buzz won his first art competition by the age of 10 while attending Kate Shepard Elementary School. He was a scholastic magazine Gold Key scholarship winner in the Kansas State Art Competition at the age of 17 and received a scholarship to the Kansas City Art Institute, which he attended while still in high school.
Buzz also excelled in the classroom and on the sports field while in high school, graduating in the top 10% of his class, lettering in two sports and receiving the Explorer Post Athletic Award of Excellence for the Kansas City Area.
Upon graduation in 1977, from Shawnee Mission West High School, he received a Miller Art Merit Scholarship. He studied Art at Kansas State University and then at the University of South Alabama, worked part time and competed as a sprinter on the University's track team. He was a member of the South Alabama School record 4x100 meter relay team in 1981. While in college, Buzz decided not to pursue a major in Fine Arts, having many other varied interests, One such interest led him to pursue a degree in Operations Management, but he continued taking several Art classes as time allowed.
Buzz graduated with honors from the University of South Alabama in 1983, with a BS in Operations Systems Management and enough hours for a Minor in Fine Arts. After Graduation, Buzz began a 20-year career in the manufacturing and computer support field.
However, most spare moments are spent creating, painting, learning and developing his own artistic style. Buzz has worked in both 2D and 3D mediums since his childhood, including wood, clay ceramics, pencil, ink, pastels, acrylics, oils and watercolors. His subject matter has a wide range from sports art, (which he is most widely known for), jazz art, landscapes, portraits and vibrant impressionistic character studies that depict everyday life.
