This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Carrie Blackman was born on on April 11, 1856 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a painter who specialized in portraits of children.  She studied in St. Louis at the School of Fine Arts and began her portrait painting career in that city.  She also studied in Paris.  She exhibited her work  at St. Louis Artists Guild and won an award at the Alaska-Yukon Expo in 1909 in Seattle.

In the mid 1920s, she moved to Carmel, California where she changed her focus from portraits to landscape and marine painting.

She died in Carmel on May 6, 1935.
