Following is a biography provided by John Short, who received information from Jim Vadeboncoeur:
A book illustrator and portrait painter, Charles Brock's metier was the illustration of period books such as the stories of Jane Austen, Charles Lamb, Oliver Goldsmith, and Daniel Defoe. He also illustrated the classics of Sir Walter Scott.
He was born at Cambridge, England and spent most of his life working there in collaboration with his brother, H.M. Brock. He was educated at the Cambridge School and in the studio of Henry Wiles, sculptor. |
