Born in Ontario, Canada, on November 16, 1948, his family returned to France in 1958. He attended private schools, and in 1965 began studying sculpture at the art school of Versailles. From 1969 to 1971 he again lived in Canada working as a draughtsman in the engineering and design department of a paper and pulp factory. He continued working in the industry in France, and then in Brazil from 1972 to 1978. Returning to France that year, he became a furniture designer in Marseilles, and not until 1984, after the death of one of his sons, did he decide to concentrate on sculpture. His work became the catharsis for his grief, evoking the feelings of a classical tragedy.
