This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Raised in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn and continuing to live near Chicago, Clayton Beck paints in a style he calls "Alla Prima Realism". He took his art training at a time when it was difficult to find classes in realist art. "To the Art Institute of Chicago, we were just commercial painters and should be painting billboards."
Beck enrolled in the American Academy of Arts in Chicago and received his Associate's Degree. Then in the mid 1980s he attended the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts where his mentor became Richard Schmid, President of the Academy. Through Schmid, he also developed a relationship with a gallery in Oklahoma, which in turn led to other gallery representation.
Beck also teaches workshops so that he can share his knowledge and skills with others.

Biography from Nichols Taos Fine Art Gallery:
| Clayton Beck is an artist whose career now spans three decades.
His work ranges in traditional painting mediums from oil, pastel and
watercolor to those considered as drawing mediums such as conté and
charcoal.
His subject matter is as diverse as figurative nudes, still-lives,
landscapes and portraits. Clayton’s love and mastery of the subject in
which he is working is unquestioned.
Of his painting, he says: “My work is an affirmation of life. The fact
that I am here and aware of that is cause enough to celebrate. My
inspiration is the world around me and my canvas is whatever I have at
hand when I am inspired.” |
