This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, David Barbero became a noted abstract, contemporary painter from Santa Fe, New Mexico. His painterly landscapes are both objective and subjective.

He was educated at the Boston Museum School from where he graduated with honors and then won a scholarship to the Yale Summer School of Art. In 1964, he had his first exhibit, and this was held in Boston at the Daedalus Gallery.

He earned an M.F.A. from Tufts University and taught at several colleges in Massachusetts and traveled in Europe. In 1975, he went to Mexico and New Mexico and from then began painting Southwest landscapes. Soon a market opened for him in New Mexico and in 1983, he settled permanently in Santa Fe. He died in May, 1999 from a heart attack on a plane headed to one of the Greek Islands.
