Born in Danville, Indiana, Dorcas Birchim started painting in 1949 and by the early 1960s was seriously devoted to her artwork which included western ranch scenes, cowboys, Paiute Indians, wildlife, coastal views, and religious and political themes. In 1971, she added wood sculpture to her mediums, working in mahogany and redwood.
Birchim was raised in Segunda, California and spent her summers at Mammoth Lake in the Sierra Nevada. From 1941 to 1944, she attended UCLA as a psychology majo (showing 500 of 1037 characters). |
