| The following biography is provided to AskART.com by the artist, Dorothy Barta:
Dorothy Elaine (Woods, Vadala) Barta was named National Mother of the Year 2000 by American Mothers Inc., (americanmothers.org). She has successfully raised 11 children in a blended family all of whom are accomplished in their chosen fields and good parents. All 11 and six spouses attended the AMI National Convention at the Waldorf Astoria, in New York City, April 25-29, 2000. Dallas Visual Art Center in Dallas was her sponsor for the Texas preliminary competition
Dorothy worked as a photo colorist from 1947 until 1960 when she began taking portrait classes at The Dallas Museum of Art. Her consistent training in portraits and figure drawing led to a career after her children were grown. She has a national and International reputation as a portrait artist working in watercolor, oil and pastel She taught classes and workshops in the United States and abroad for 20 years. She has been a volunteer Master Gardener for the Texas Agriculture Extension Service, as a lecturer of wild flowers and natives. She grows 80 varieties of plants, saves seeds for distribution to members of her audience.
Now as National Mother of the Year she is traveling the nation giving lectures on parenting a blended family and building a career.
Dorothy is a member of ART FOCUS XC, a group of 17 women artists who have had exhibitions in various museums and art centers in Texas and New Mexico, founder of The Pastel Society of the Southwest, a signature member of Texas Watercolor Society, Southwestern Watercolor Society, Pastel Society of America and International Pastel society.
