| Earl Henry Brewster was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1878. He studied at the Cleveland School of Art, until the age of twenty when he moved to New York, attending the New York School of Art and the Art Students League. It was during this time that an association with Frank Vincent Du Mond began, which included visits to work at the Old Lyme Art Colony.
Brewster married the artist Achsah Barlow in 1910, and they had a daughter named Harwood. They toured Europe extensively and became friends with many of the notable artists and writers of the day including, D.H.Lawrence.
In 1936, Brewster moved to India, where a valued collection of paintings is held in the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh. He became interested in Buddhism and authored at least one book on this subject.
Exhibitions include Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts, the Boston Art Club, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., National Academy of Design, New York Art School, Galerie Cheron and Grand Palais in Paris, Secessione in Rome, Tagore Gallery in Calcutta, and Roerich Centre of Art and Culture in Allahabad.
The artist William Merritt Chase purchased one of his paintings.
