| Ed Balcourt grew up in Brooklyn and then raised his family on Long Island. He spent his later years in Florida with his wife. He received his education at Pratt Institute majoring in Illustration. He has diverse experience with New York advertising and publishing companies. Ed operated three art studios in Manhattan and also had a hand in illustrating paperback book covers and movie poster art.
The magazine Illustration (issue #32) featured an extensive article of his life and career. Author and paperback illustration aficionado Gary Lovisi recently met with Ed to discuss the classic era of illustration and the many well known artists he represented. Balcourt was a major force during the hey-day of classic illustration.
Ed was a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists. He painted portraits of prominent CEO’s and founders of businesses and many family portraits for private collectors. His works are display on the walls of many commercial buildings, galleries, and private homes.
Ed moved back to New York to be close to his family and now resides in Port Washington where at 88 years of age, he teaches art at two Senior Centers in town. He was awarded many certificates of recognition from local politicians for the “gift of art” that he is giving back to the community.
He was “Master Artist of the Year” and a show about his art and teaching was broadcast by a local Television station
His work was exhibited at the Shelter Rock Gallery.
