This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following biography is from Monika Yost:
I am the great-granddaughter of Edward Biederman's two brothers Wilhelm and Carl Biedermann. His true name is Friedrich Eduard, eldest son of Wilhelm Ernst Christian Biedermann and Marie Dorette Conradine Fischer, born June 6 1864 in Gotha, Thuringia, Germany and died in Ronco, Switzerland on January 12 1947, two years after his father passed away. Friedrich Eduard never married.
As far as I understand, the only times he was in America was to learn about the import/export business of his father by working for several companies his father dealt with. Friedrich Eduard was never really interested in the business and kept painting with his primary interest being landscape. Friedrich Eduard lived alone, a decision he made after he learned that you cannot make enough money to feed a family when you are an artist.
There were 8 children in the family. Friedrich Eduard was the second oldest child, but the eldest of the 4 boys in the family. Two of his brothers later married and had children and worked in the father's company together. Both of them later became my great-grandfathers through intermarriage of cousins.
------------ From AskART: Peter Hastings Falk in Who Was Who in American Art lists Biederman as being in Louisville, Kentucky in 1901
