Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| A portrait painter born in Burton, OH in 1847, Edwin Daniel Betts Sr. was one of the earliest artists in Little Rock, Arkansas. He lived in San Francisco and Oakland in 1886-88, and then, following portrait commissions, moved to Portland, OR and was again there in 1911.
He died in Chicago, IL in February 1915.
He was the father of artists Grace, Harold, Louis, and Edwin Betts Jr.
