Eleanor Brockenbrough was born in Lafayette, Indiana on March 12,1880 and was one of Indiana's historic women artists as recognized by the Indiana Historical Society. Painting during a time when the art movement in Indiana drew national acclaim for its male members, Brockenbrough was one of the many talented Indiana women who chose to explore their creativity and seek training in art.  She studied at the Ferry Hall Academy, Lake Forest, Illinois and the Art Institute of Chicago.  Instructors included: Eric Pape, Boston; Frederick F. Fursman, Saugatuck, Michigan; Charles H. Hawthorne, Hugh H. Breckenridge, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Her exhibitions included the Hoosier Salon 1925-27, 1929-31; Annual Exhibition of Work by Indiana Artists, John Herron Art Institute, Indianapolis, 1925 (Second Prize); Annual Exhibit of Indiana Painters, Richmond Art Association, Richmond, Indiana, 1926; "Paintings of Flowers and Garden Scenes," Ball State Teachers College Art Gallery, Muncie, Indiana, 1930.

She was a member of the North Shore Arts Association; Indiana Artists Club; Hoosier Salon Patrons Association; Lafayette Art Association (elected first woman president in 1929); Lafayette Art Club; and the Art Institute of Chicago Alumni Association.

Her works can be found at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette; Indiana Memorial Union Collection, Indiana University, Bloomington; Fort Wayne Museum of Art; and Purdue University.

Eleanor Brockenbrough died 5 November, 1938 in Lafayette, Indiana having embraced the Christian Science faith at the end of her life.
