 A painter of landscapes mainly influenced by her travels to Greece, Italy, and Yugoslavia. In the 1960s she began painting still-lives and flowers in the tradition of Japanese flower paintings. Drawings of her cats were made into postage stamps. Also known as a portrait painter, she is a member of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy. Blackadder studied at the University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh College of Art, where she lectured from 1962 to 1986.
