This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Abstract painter Elliott Bassman is known for his colorful abstract genre, still life, portrait and landscape paintings with special focus on his Judaic heritage. He received a bachelor's degree cum laude from City College of New York in 1973 and a Master of Fine Arts Degree, with a major in painting and drawing at Columbia University. He also studied at the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, 1971-1975 and the Skowhegan School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine, 1971.
Elliott Bassman is strongly influenced by European art, especially Cubism and Post-Impressionism and also by American works of the 20th Century. The "Torah" also plays a large role in his work and can be found in many of his paintings. His unique use of color and space is a predominate feature.
Collectors include Marion Alexander, NYC; Andrew Hyman, Washington DC; Marisa Ripo, NYC.
