| Trained in San Francisco with Arthur Palmer and Thomas Leighton, Elver Barker specialized in fingerpainting, especially trees and timberline landscapes. In 1968, he wrote a book "Finger Painting in Oils".
He was an active member of the Mattachine Society, an influential gay rights organization, and he donated dozens of paintings to charitable causes.
