This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Monterey Peninsula Herald, California. May 4, 1982 (p 4):
Peninsula artist Eugene Ames Baker, known for his meticulous oil paintings of medieval subjects, died Sunday at Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was 54. Born Jan. 6, 1928, in Dyersberg, Tenn., Mr. Baker left a position as art teacher at Pacific Grove High School in 1952 to pursue a painting and seriography career. He became a member of the Carmel Art Association, where he served on the board of directors, was listed in “Who’s Who in American Art,” and was nominated for a gold medal by the Academia Italia in 1979. Following a period during which he maintained his own gallery in Carmel Valley, his paintings were hung in Carmel’s Zantman Galleries. He was also known as a serigrapher of silk screen paintings and a boating enthusiast. For four years he taught art at night at Monterey Peninsula College. He is survived by his wife, Ann, of the family home in Carmel Valley, and daughters Kim Baker Challis of Seaside and Kathy Baker of Monterey. No services will be held. Following cremation by the California Cremation Society, ashes will be scattered at sea.
