| Born in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY on Sept. 7, 1871. After graduation from Princeton University, Brewster practiced law until 1911. He then published a motion picture magazine which made him very wealthy. A self-taught painter, he was active in New York for several years before moving to southern California in the mid-1920s. While in Hollywood he was more active as a writer-director for the movie industry than as a painter. His three divorces and the stock market crash left him penniless.
