This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Washington, DC on June 7, 1867. “Annie” Briggs was a resident of Oakland at 530 13th Street during the 1890s-1910. She studied painting with Wm Keith and in London, Paris, and Holland. At the turn of the century she shared a studio with Lillie O'Ryan in San Francisco at 414 Pine Street. After marrying George W. Lane, she settled on a farm in Morgan Hill, CA where she remained until her demise on April 18, 1945. Her landscapes include scenes of Alameda, Oakland, and Fruitvale. Some of her later paintings are signed "Frances Lane." Member: Sketch Club (SF); SFAA; Spinners Club. Exh: SFAA, 1894-1907; Calif. State Fair, 1895-1901; Oakland Industrial Expo, 1896; Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1896; Sequoia Club (SF), 1909. In: Oakland Museum; CHS.
