This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from Peter Kostoulakos, AOA, NEAA: Fine Art Consultant, www.pkart.com

Frances Theresa S. (Davis) Butler was born in Pittsfield, Maine on July 28, 1894, daughter of Abraham L. and Maggie A. (Pickett) Davis. She died in 1984 at the age of 90 in the Pilgrim House at Peabody Nursing Home.

Butler was a graduate of the Tilton School in Tilton, NH. She was a member of the Rockport Art Association from 1951 to 1984; Copley Society of Boston; Cambridge Art Association; Rockport Republican Committee; Rockport Garden Club; Rockport Women's Club; Addison Gilbert Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary; and the Cape Ann Historical Society. She has had many one-woman shows, participated in traveling shows all over the country, and has work in many private collections.

Before moving to Rockport in 1955, Butler lived in Hamilton, MA for many years. In 1959 she established a studio-gallery in Rockport at 3 Ocean Avenue.

Butler's painting style is impressionistic, colorful and "fantasy like" in the sense that her compositions are idyllic - soothing, romantic retreats...
