Biography from Roger King Fine Art, A - G:
Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data compared to the extensive information about American artists.

Francis Cecil Boult was an artist in the long tradition of English sporting painting.  His most common subjects were hunt scenes, hounds, horsemen, and coaching scenes.  It is likely that he was related to Augustus S. Boult (died 1853), also a British painter of equestrian portraits and shooting and hunting scenes; the two artists shared similar styles and subject matter.

Francis Boult exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street in 1885 and exhibited as late as 1895, the year of his death.  Boult's works depict the quintessential sporting life of Britain that persisted from the 19th century through World War I.  While his name is less familiar to American audiences, his works, embodying the essence of British tradtion, are frequently reproduced as prints and enjoy an enduring popularity on both sides of the Atlantic.
