Frank Bensing was my grandfather. He was always blind in one eye due to scarlet fever in childhood. He attended the Chicago Institute of Art for 7 years as a young man. He made his living being an illustrator and portrait painter. For fun he painted landscapes. He painted in oil, pastels, and watercolors.
He painted until the age of 88. He died at 90.
The most famous person he painted was Joseph P. Kennedy. A copy of the painting is in the book "Jack, the Struggles of John F. Kennedy by Herbert S. Parment in the picture section. |
