Frank Ernest Beresford (1881 Derby, United Kingdom – 1967)
Beresford attended the Derby School of Art from 1895 to 1900. He soon gained recognition as a painter of portraits in oils and completed thousands of portrait commissions. Female South African artist Helen Anne Petrie was a short term student and they parted ways after a reportedly heated confrontation of artistic differences.
He produced the hugely popular painting of George V Lying in State which was shown at the Royal Academy and purchased by Queen Mary.
