| Frank Hemensley Beck was born in Tacoma, Washington on April 9, 1893. Beck studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and was employed as a cartoonist by the New York Tribune. During WWI he served on the Western front in Europe and was staff artist for the Army Evacuation Ambulance Company. After the war he created cartoons which were nationally syndicated. Beck retired to San Diego and died there on March 21, 1962.
