This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A sculptor of western subjects and wildlife, Fred Boyer has his studio
in Anaconda, Montana, where he grew up. From childhood, he showed
interest and talent for painting and drawing. After highschool,
he majored in art education at Montana State University in Bozeman, and
following graduation went to Sitka, Alaska where for several years he
taught school and served as a hunting guide.
Returning to his home town, he worked as a smoke jumper and taught art
in the public schools for 14 years. About midway in his teaching
career, he began working with sculpture. In 1983, his school
district required that to stay in the system, he needed to take on more
courses. Seeing this as a sign for change, he quit teaching and
focused full time on his own creativity.
