Freeman Butts is said to have brought abstract expressionism to Montana. He was known for his expressive flowing paint and the vivacious way he embraced life. He created luscious paintings of landscapes and nudes.
Born in 1928 in Los Angeles, Freeman Butts became interested in art at the age of 10. After spending two years in the Navy, Butts enrolled in the Hollywood Art Center School. After quitting art school he worked for Disney Studios.
