This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Plein air painter, Gavin Brooks, began painting as a child and today credits her mother, who enjoyed painting and writing, and father, who enjoyed outdoor activities, for influencing her career.
She began her career in graphic arts as she was not interested in the abstract art being taught at most art schools in the 1980s. She eventually created a successful regional magazine yet walked away from it all when she decided the time was right to pursue a career in painting.
Brooks attended the Schuler School of Fine Art in Baltimore, Maryland and learned the traditional approach to European painting and sculpture. She later studied with Scott Christensen to learn techniques for plein air painting.
Gavin Brooks is a signature member of the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters, a member of the Oil Painters of America, the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association and the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association.
Two of her works are in the permanent collection of the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland ( Sailing on Summer Heat, 16x20, and Hope House Sheep, 8x10).
