This biography from the Archives of AskART:
George F. Botthume was a portrait painter after 1841. He studied under Soloman Fanning in New York from 1844-1845. He returned to Norwich, Connecticut near his hometown of Baltic and worked in other locations in Connecticut before finally moving to Springfield, Massachusetts where he was active until at least 1878. Although principally a portrait painter, Botthume is known to have done some landscapes (farmscapes).
