Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
Painter, Born in McGregor, IA on Oct. 27, 1868. Berg had various occupations during his early life. He worked as a gold miner in Death Valley and, during most of his youth, bossed cattle outfits in Washington, Oregon, South Dakota, and New Mexico. A self-taught artist, he was a cowboy for 20 years before exhibiting at the NAD in NYC. He was a resident of South Norwalk, CT in 1933 and, shortly thereafter, moved to California where he spent his final years in Los Gatos. He died there on July 1, 1941. Berg painted 600 oils during his lifetime. His only exhibition in California was a solo show at the St Claire Hotel in San Jose in 1937. Member: Salmagundi Club. 1 AAA 1933; WWAA 1936-41.
