This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A student and then five-year Director of the American Academy in Rome from 1904 to 1909,  George Breck was known primarily as a mural painter.  In addition to living in Italy, he was a resident of New York City and of Flushing.

Memberships included Art Students League, Architectural League of New York, Century Association, National Society of Mural Painters and New York City Art Commission.  He won a medal for his entry in the St. Louis Exposition of 1904, and for study in Rome received a Lazarus Scholarship for Mural Painting, 1896-1899.

While in Rome, he designed in 1909 the cartoons for facade mosaic decoration of the American Church of St. Paul's, a commission by Daniel Fearing of New York in memory of his wife, who died in Rome.  Breck's mosaics, lauded as exquisitely beautiful, had images of four double life-size evangelists arranged around a rose window, and over the main door, the image of St. Paul, held prisoner by Roman soldiers.
