| Landscape painter. Born in England on May 2, 1865, the son of painter Wm D. Blatchly. The younger Blatchly began his art training in England. In 1886 he immigrated to San Francisco where he further studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute for seven years, and became head of the art department at Schmidt Lithograph Company. After the fire of 1906, he established his own commercial art and engraving company and continued as its president for the remainder of his life. During his leisure he painted landscapes of northern California. An active member of the Bohemian Club, he served on the board of directors for many years. He also belonged to the Rotary Club, and during his latter years was a vice-president of the Society for Sanity in Art. He died in San Francisco on June 19, 1942.
