This biography from the Archives of AskART:
"Henry S. Bullock is another veteran of the war of the rebellion, but his service was as a boy, first as drummer in the Twenty-Fourth New York Infantry and next as trumpeter in the twentieth New York Cavalry.  Mr.  Bullock was born in Plymouth, Michigan, and while he has always been a student and an admirer of art, it is only with the past three or four years that he became a professional artist.  Previous to that time he depended upon his ability as a musician for a living.  A modest man, full of the finer feelings and honest and earnest in his endeavors, he has fairly won his place.  His best work is in the line of landscape painting and in this he is very successful. "
"Detroit's Art Colony"  Detroit Free Press, February 17, 1889.
