| One of the first staff photographers for Life magazine, Horace Bristol captured many images of the Depression era, heroic events of World War II in the Pacific theatre, and post war impoverished condition of many Americans.
"During the Depression, he inspired John Steinbeck to travel with him and write while Bristol took pictures; it was from this experience that Steinbeck wrote his Grapes of Wrath."
In 1956 after the suicide of his wife, Bristol gave up his photography career.
