| Please note: Artists not classified as American in our database may have limited biographical data
compared to the extensive information about American artists.
Hugh Barnden was born in Oxfordshire in 1946 and educated at the Royal College of Art 1968-1971. Before entering the Royal College, Barnden studied furniture design with John Makepeace, a well-known English designer.
From the mid 1970s he turned exclusively to painting, participating in Eroticism in Fashion at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in 1976, with his first one-man exhibition in Amsterdam in 1978.
Barnden showed paintings and drawings in New York in 1983. He has held nine one-man exhibitions in London and shown at many others. |
