Biography from Crocker Art Museum Store:
| Painter, muralist. Born in NYC on March 7, 1879, Hugo Ballin studied art in his native city under Mowbray and Blum at the ASL. In 1921 he moved to Los Angeles where he was associated with the movie industry as a producer and designer of stage sets. He was the author of The Woman at the Door (1925) and Stigma (1928).
Ballin died in Santa Monica, CA on Nov. 27, 1956.
