Biography from AskART:
| The following information is provided by Ralph Diethelm from Zurich Switzerland:
I have three pictures by this artist acquired in the 1950's. The pictures were given by Mr. Henry Ford to his housekeeper at Fairlane (Dearborn, Michigan) who subsequently gave them to my mother and from my mother to me.
Irving R. Bacon was a sponsored protege of Henry Ford and studied art in Munich, Germany in the early 1900's. Upon his return to the United States, Mr. Bacon became the "house" painter for Henry Ford and the Ford family, and subsequently for many years, the Editor-in-Chief of the in-house periodical, "Ford Times."
He has never been widely exhibited and his paintings (as far as I know) are in the Edison Museum at Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan and in the Detroit Institute of Arts. I have also seen his paintings at the DuMoucelle (?) art gallery in Detroit. Most of the painting on exhibit at Greenfield Village are family portraits of the Ford family. The pictures I own are farm scenes. These three paintings are probably the only Irving R. Bacon paintings in Zurich, Switzerland!
I don't know if you can utilize any of this information. I only felt that, because Mr. Bacon was a "private" painter, his works are largely unknown, but because of technique and beauty, they deserve a place among American artists' works."
