| | Born in Portland, OR in 1865. Biles spent his career in his native city except for the years 1896-1904 when he was in San Francisco as an employee of the art departments of the Chronicle and Examiner. He then went to NYC to study at the ASL and spent five years there as a commercial artist with the Street Railway Advertising Company. In 1909 he traveled to Paris for further study at Académie Julian. Returning to Portland, he worked there as a commercial artist until his death of pneumonia on June 2, 1914.
