This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following, submitted November 2004, is from William J.B. Traxler, great, great nephew of the artist.
James T. Breen was my Great Great Uncle. He studied in France and Boston and was born in Boston around the time of the Civil War. He was commissioned to do a series of paintings for a hotel in Boston commemorating all the Presidents up until I believe Woodrow Wilson. Most paintings that he did are still owned by family members.
He was known to copy famous paintings, but the faces of the characters were replaced with the faces of his nieces and nephews.
