Biography from Wickliff & Associates Auctioneers, Inc.:
For more than 10 years, Reverend Jeffrey C Burris combined a career in law with his work as a volunteer chaplain at Methodist Hospital. During a mission trip to Africa while in high school, Reverend Burris first thought of becoming a minister, and he majored in religion while attending Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia. But second thoughts about ministering to the sick and dying prompted him to choose law instead.  He graduated from the Indiana University School of Law in 1976.

In 1991, he began taking classes at Christian Theological Seminary, and he joined the staff of Meridian Street United Methodist Church as a lay person, visiting shut-ins and hospital patients. He also continued to practice law part time, specializing in Social Security and disability law.  Reverend Burris became an ordained minister in 1994 and earned a master's of divinity degree from Christian Theological Seminary in 1996. In June, he was ordained a deacon in the United Methodist Church.  He worked three days a week as a lawyer and two days a week as a volunteer hospital chaplain at Methodist Hospital.

Reverend Burris was an accomplished landscape artist working in oils, for which he won numerous state and regional awards. His works have been represented in several local galleries, as well as the Brown County Art Guild. He was a member of the Hoosier Art Salon, Indiana Artist Club and Indiana Plein Air Painters Association.
