This biography from the Archives of AskART:
John Bolton, artist and printmaker, was born in England in 1935, where he received his grade school and high school education and apprenticeship in tool and dye making before coming to the United States in 1952.

He worked as a foreign car and race car mechanic for Jaguar and Masseratti corporation until drafted in the U. S. Army in 1958. Bolton was assigned as an instructor in an ordnance company teaching auto mechanics to officers and enlisted men. His artistic ability was soon noticed, and he was reassigned as battalion artist, a position he held until demobilized in 1960.

After graduation Bolton was hired as the art director of Bantam Match Co. where he worked for two years and then the next year, worked as art director for Dunwoodie Associates. In the following fifteen years he worked as art director for Rodco, and R.F.R. Inc. designing and painting murals on custom Vans and running his own art and sign business.

More recently Mr. Bolton has been an art instructor at the Pilgrim State Correctional Facility in Brentwood, and as an adjunct professor in the advertising art and design department of the state university of New York at Farmingdale, New York. He now runs his own business, Country Craftsman Ltd., in Fraziers Bottom, West Virginia. It is an art business that produces fine-art paintings, and limited edition prints, signs and repairs and restores paintings and antiques.

He also continues with his fine-art work, which consists of watercolor, gouache, and acrylic painting, pencil, pen, and ink drawings. His print making includes woodcuts and wood engraving and cooper or zinc plate etchings with aquatints or hand coloring, embossing and makes cast paper pieces.

Silkscreen is also used as a fine art printing method. He also makes pottery, stoneware, porcelain pots and figurines. His studio is equipped for all types of art work and fine art printing, pottery and woodworking.
