| | Born at Crown Point, IN on June 18, 1876. Black studied with John Francis Smith and Antonin Sterba in Chicago. In 1907 he and artist Burton Boundey came to California where the latter had relatives in Monrovia. Black picked peaches and painted landscapes in and around Monrovia until 1909 or longer.
