| John W. Bell (1946-1895)
A specialist in autumn landscapes, Bell was born in Warren, Ohio in 1846. His father was Reubun Bell, who had settled first in the vicinity of Youngstown and then at Warren.
Bell entered the U.S. Navy at the age of sixteen and served throughout the remaining period of the Civil War.
He married Ella Metcalf, the daughter of a prominent physician in Mahoning Valley. While he painted in many places like Cleveland and New York City, his wife successfully marketed his work. Bell also maintained a studio in Warren and died in that city on November 11, 1895.
