During World War I, June Burkholder worked for the American Red Cross, and then in 1920 married C.L. Burholder, who joined the faculty as Assistant Chief of Horticulture at Purdue University.  They had one daughter, and he died in 1957.  June began painting when their daughter, Jeanne, entered high school.  She taught art for a short period of time in schools in Lafayette, Indianapolis and Chicago, and also did botanical illustrations for the Purdue horticulture department.  Her specialty was floral still life, and she completed her last painting at age 92.  She lived to be 104 years old.
