| A pioneering female artist in Philadelphia, Katharine Barker was part of a group of women artists known as "The Philadelphia Ten." She was born in Pittsburgh, and at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts where she attended on a fellowship, she studied with Philip Hale, Thomas Anshutz, Emil Carlson, Robert Vonnoh, and Cecilia Beaux.
