| The following is from the Bingham Gallery:
Ken Baxter was born in San Diego in 1944. His father was a traveling government inspector whose travels took the family to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they settled in the 1950s. In the LDS (Mormon) culture, serious training was always made available when young artists showed promise. Ken was no exception. After receiving his BFA from the University of Utah, Baxter taught high school art for several years before becoming a full-time artist. Baxter states, "I made my first serious painting when I was twelve years old. Other kids were out playing ball and going camping, and I would daydream about composing the beautiful mountains and pastoral scenes of Utah. I have continued to paint religiously every day since."
When Paul and Susan Bingham opened their first gallery in Los Altos, CA in 1974, Baxter was part of the stable of young artists they represented. His glistening and crisp snow scenes and well-composed historical commissions were very well accepted. His painting, The Saints Leaving Liverpool, has been used by the LDS church in numerous publications.
