| The following, submittted January 2005, is from Carolynn Workman, relative of the artist.
In 1893 LaForce Bailey was born in Joliet, Illinois to Richard Lincoln Bailey and Kathryn LaForce. He married Willeta Myrtle Goodspeed and the couple had one child, Lou Ann Bailey.
LaForce Bailey painted in Provincetown, Massachusetts each summer for many years and served as president of the Provincetown Art Association at one time. LaForce's work is in the permanent collection of the Provincetown Art Association/Museum. His work is on display at the Provincetown Assessors Office and at banks in town as well.
In the fall of 2004 there was an exhibit of LaForce Bailey's work at the Provincetown Art Association/Museum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- La Force Bailey was an associate professor of art at the University of Illinois, Urbana, and lived in that town for much of his life. He studied with William Hekking and at Provincetown with Charles Hawthorne.
In addition to his activities with the Provincetown Art Association, Bailey was a member of the American Water Color Society and Water Color Societies in Washington DC and Philadelphia. He did a mural in 1933 for the Century of Progress Exposition.
