Biography from Lee Youngman Galleries:
Lathrop Bullene (1925-2011)

A sculptor, he literally and figuratively carved a niche for himself as one of the prominent sculptors of stone today.  He was headquartered in California near the old marble quarries of the Mother Lode of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lathrop was stirred by the presence of all the locked-up images, waiting to be released.

Like the Early Greeks, he was able to reveal the underlying grace and movement of his draped female figures.  In all of his work the finished form is in harmony with the natural state of the stone.

Lathrop Bullene had an unusually rich life in the arts.  Beginning with six years of study in the Arts in such prestigious institutions as Corcoran Galleries in Washington, D.C., the Jepson and Chouinard Institutes in Los Angeles, and the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, as well as Arizona State University.

This was followed by a lengthy career in a bronze sculptor.  A Renaissance man, Lathrop Bullene performed for many years singing for the Phoenix Civic Light Opera.  Among his many talents he was a fencing master.  During his middle career years, he worked under contract for one of the largest and most prestigious jewelry stores in Beverly Hills, creating custom pieces for the stars.

His work is some of the finest to be found anywhere and has been recognized as such by winning many awards and articles in Southwest Art and other fine publications.
